Sepsis Alliance Summit to Offer Free Virtual Education for Health Care Professionals

The Sepsis Alliance Summit will return Sept. 16-17 for its seventh annual two-day virtual event, bringing together clinicians, researchers, patient advocates and health care leaders to discuss advances in sepsis care.

The free summit will feature sessions on refractory septic shock, strategies for improving hospital sepsis outcomes, patient safety and diagnostic quality. Participants also will learn about emerging technologies, evidence-based approaches to early recognition and treatment, antimicrobial stewardship and system-level quality improvement strategies.

Health care professionals can earn free AMA PRA Category 1 Credit or RN continuing education credits through practice-focused sessions. The summit is open to health care professionals and will explore the latest research, innovations and strategies aimed at improving sepsis outcomes.

From Sepsis to Survival: Abby’s Journey at UC Health

At age 21, Abby Clinkenbeard was a college student preparing for finals when what seemed like the flu quickly turned life-threatening. She collapsed at home and was rushed to UC Health West Chester Hospital, where doctors discovered she was in septic shock. HHS, CMS to Brief Hospitals on Make Hospital Food Healthier Pledge

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will host a virtual briefing Sept. 22 on the Make Hospital Food Healthier Pledge, a national initiative focused on improving the nutritional quality of food served in health care settings. NSA Releases Cyber Hygiene Guidance to Help Defend Against Advanced Threats

The National Security Agency has released a best practices guide to help organizations strengthen cyber hygiene and defend against advanced cyber threats, including those using artificial intelligence. The guide recommends immediate steps to reduce risk, including maintaining a network inventory, implementing multifactor authentication and promptly applying security patches. It also outlines longer-term steps toward zero-trust security, including network segmentation and continuous monitoring. The guidance highlights defenses against AI-enhanced threats such as automated reconnaissance and “living off the land” attacks, which use legitimate tools already present on a victim’s system.
