Miami Valley Hospital, Ohio Task Force 1 Mark 25 Years Since 9/11
Gov. Mike DeWine has ordered U.S. and Ohio flags flown at half-staff Friday in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and asked Ohioans to observe a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. The anniversary also highlights the enduring role of Ohio health care professionals in disaster response, including Miami Valley Hospital’s longstanding partnership with Ohio Task Force 1.
The Dayton hospital helped equip the FEMA urban search and rescue team before its first major deployment to Ground Zero, providing medical equipment, supplies and pharmaceuticals needed to meet federal requirements. Twenty-five years later, Miami Valley Hospital continues to manage and rotate medical supplies and pharmaceuticals for the task force, saving tens of thousands of dollars and helping ensure OH-TF1 remains prepared to respond to disasters across the nation.
Dr. Randy Marriott, now medical director of Premier Health EMS Center of Excellence, was among the Ohio responders who deployed to New York and supported fellow first responders at Ground Zero.
