Two OHA member hospitals, Summa Health and Cleveland Clinic Akron General, are partnering with the city of Akron to launch a new hospital-based violence intervention program aimed at reducing gun violence and preventing retaliation. A licensed social worker will meet gun violence victims at their bedside, offering long-term support, case management and referrals to resources that address trauma and social determinants of health. Akron City Council has approved initial funding, with a focus on building trust and reducing emergency room recidivism. Read more here.

The CDC has confirmed 935 measles cases in 2025 across 30 jurisdictions, with Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma at the outbreak’s epicenter. In Ohio, the count was 33, with cases in Ashtabula County, 14 in Knox County and one each in Allen, Defiance and Holmes counties. The CDC reports: Hospitalizations: 121 people (13%) have been hospitalized, including 30% of children under 5 with the virus. Vaccination status: 96% of cases are unvaccinated or have unknown status.
