Ohio Medicaid Work and Community Engagement Requirements Set for 2027
Ohio Medicaid members and health care providers are preparing for new federal work and community engagement requirements that will take effect Jan. 1, 2027, for certain adults enrolled in Medicaid expansion coverage.
The new requirements apply to some adults ages 19-64 enrolled in Group VIII coverage, also known as MAGI Adult or Ribicoff coverage. Individuals who do not qualify for an exemption generally will need to complete at least 80 hours per month of approved activities, including employment, education, volunteer service or workforce training.
The Ohio Department of Medicaid has begun notifying potentially affected individuals and providing information about eligibility, exemptions and participation requirements. Many Medicaid members may qualify for exemptions and will not be required to meet the new standards.
