The American Hospital Association this week shared a Think Global Health article by John Riggi, AHA national adviser for cybersecurity and risk, highlighting the growing threat cyberattacks pose to U.S. health care amid Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Riggi wrote that health care has become a preferred target for cybercriminals and foreign adversaries because hospitals increasingly rely on interconnected technology and hold valuable patient data. The article notes cyberattacks can extend beyond data theft, potentially disrupting clinical operations, delaying care and creating a “ransomware blast radius” that affects other hospitals in a region. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Development this week announced the completion of the Appalachian Children’s Health Initiative, which invested more than $64 million to establish 29 health clinics across the region. Most of the clinics are school-based and operate in partnership with 16 health care providers and 34 school districts, offering services including primary, dental, vision and mental health care. Since the first clinic opened in 2024, the clinics have provided nearly 33,000 patient visits, including more than 21,000 visits for children. OHA is accepting nominations for the 2027 Albert E. Dyckes Health Care Worker of the Year Award, which recognizes an exceptional front-line health care worker from an OHA member hospital or health system. Nominations are due Monday, Nov. 30, 2026. Each member hospital may nominate one eligible employee who routinely goes beyond the call of duty, reflects their organization’s mission and values and gives back to the community. Direct caregivers, support personnel and physicians are eligible. Two high-resolution photos, including at least one headshot, must accompany each nomination. OHA members Henry County Hospital and ProMedica this week announced plans to enter into a management affiliation aimed at strengthening health care services for Henry County residents. The agreement, expected to be finalized by the end of October, would allow Henry County Hospital to maintain local governance while gaining access to ProMedica’s regional network, clinical resources and specialty services. The affiliation is intended to improve access to care, support provider recruitment and retention and create opportunities for future growth. Hospital operations, medical practices and services are expected to continue without interruption, with patients maintaining access to local providers.
