OHA is accepting nominations for the 2027 Albert E. Dyckes Health Care Worker of the Year Award, which recognizes an exceptional front-line health care worker from an OHA member hospital or health system. Nominations are due Monday, Nov. 30, 2026. Each member hospital may nominate one eligible employee who routinely goes beyond the call of duty, reflects their organization’s mission and values and gives back to the community. Direct caregivers, support personnel and physicians are eligible. Two high-resolution photos, including at least one headshot, must accompany each nomination. OHA is accepting proposals for educational presentations at the 112th OHA Annual Membership Meeting, with submissions due Dec. 31, 2026. Presentations should be 60 minutes, including time for questions, and address one of six educational tracks: Clinical Excellence Finance Strategy & Sustainability Innovative Nursing Practice & Leadership Legal, Compliance & Risk Strategic Health Care Leadership Workforce Strategy & Employee Experience Proposals will be reviewed by OHA member representatives, professional membership group leaders and OHA staff, with preference given to topics broadly applicable to the hospital community. The American Hospital Association, or AHA, has released a social media toolkit with sample posts and graphics to encourage consumers to enroll in 2027 health coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplaces. Open enrollment begins Nov. 1 and ends Jan. 15. Consumers should enroll by Dec. 15 for coverage beginning Jan. 1, 2027. Depending on final federal and state marketplace timelines, some consumers may have until Jan. 15 to enroll in coverage beginning Feb. 1, 2027. Access AHA's toolkit here.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to highlight the importance of early detection and access to cancer screenings. The Ohio Department of Health’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Project, or BCCP, helps women navigate the health care system and access screening services. BCCP’s Patient Navigation Program connects women with health care providers and community resources and answers questions about scheduling appointments, insurance coverage and other barriers to care. The program also offers no-cost breast and cervical cancer screenings and diagnostic testing to eligible participants.
