SAMHSA Releases Annual Survey Highlighting Behavioral Health Trends

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has released findings from its 2025 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, offering an updated look at substance use, mental health and treatment trends across the United States.

The annual survey found encouraging progress among adolescents and young adults, including declines in alcohol, tobacco and marijuana use, as well as reductions in major depressive episodes, suicidal thoughts and substance use disorders.

Despite those gains, the report shows behavioral health challenges remain widespread. Nearly 70 million Americans age 12 and older reported using an illicit drug in the past year, and approximately 45 million people experienced a substance use disorder, with many not receiving treatment.

ODH Reports Third Measles Outbreak of 2026

The Ohio Department of Health has reported the state’s third measles outbreak of 2026, with four related cases identified in Ashtabula and Tuscarawas counties. All four individuals were unvaccinated, with ages ranging from 4 to 30 years old. ODH is working with local health departments to investigate potential exposures and encourage vaccination. Knox Community Hospital Signs Letter of Intent to Join Kettering Health

Knox Community Hospital has signed a non-binding letter of intent to join Kettering Health, marking the next step in a process aimed at strengthening local access to care and ensuring the hospital’s long-term sustainability. GuardCare Weekend to Offer Ohioans Free Health Services

ODH, Ohio National Guard and Athens City-County Health Department will provide free health services to Ohioans during the 2026 GuardCare weekend Aug. 1-2 at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine Heritage Hall in Athens. Services will include medical screenings, dental exams, vision and hearing screenings, immunizations, mammograms, behavioral health screenings and other preventive care. A resource fair will connect attendees with local health care providers and community programs, while Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities staff will provide support for individuals with disabilities. Baxter Recalls IV Product Due to Particulate Matter

Baxter has voluntarily recalled a specific lot of Cefazolin in Dextrose Injection after particulate matter identified as cardboard was found in the solution. The affected product is used intravenously to treat bacterial infections and help prevent infections during surgery. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, use of the product could potentially lead to serious complications, including pulmonary embolism and inflammation of the veins, although no adverse events have been reported.
