Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine this week visited New London Local Schools in Huron County to highlight the district’s participation in the OhioSEE vision program and recognize its literacy achievements. The district is among a select group statewide to have all school buildings earn the Governor’s Science of Reading Champions Award. During the visit, students received no-cost eyeglasses through the OhioSEE program, which provides vision services to children in high-need counties. OHA’s Opioid Overdose Dashboard has been updated with data through the fourth quarter of 2025. The data is derived from the more than 39 million annual coded hospital encounters in Ohio. The release of per-capita rates by county as well as by market area are intended to assist health policymakers, funders and local collaboratives in their work. Q4 of 2025 saw 1,007 overdose encounters -- a decrease from 1,372 in Q3 2025. The data does not reflect overdoses that did not present for care at a hospital or overdoses that occurred among Ohio residents who were cared for at hospitals…

As Workplace Violence Awareness Month is observed in April, recent data underscores the growing risks facing health care workers. The American College of Emergency Physicians reports more than 90% of emergency physicians experienced threats or attacks in the past year. The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses found nearly half of nurses report physical violence and 68% report verbal abuse. The American Hospital Association estimates the financial impact of workplace violence on hospitals exceeds $18 billion annually.
