Save Now, Join OHA’s Energy & Sustainability Program at No Extra Cost

OHA member hospitals can save BIG by taking advantage of our multifaceted Energy & Sustainability Program – a service that comes at no additional cost to you.

Our initiatives, which include a benchmarking and procurement component, has received national acclaim, earning the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for Sustained Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy for three years in a row.

In 2023, participating member hospitals achieved $12.8 million in utility cost savings from OHA Energy & Sustainability Program benchmarking, energy efficiency support and technical assistance. Ohio is among the national leaders in ENERGY STAR hospitals, with 20 certified hospitals across the state thanks to the assistance of OHA’s program. ENERGY STAR-certified hospitals save an average of $4,000 per bed.

OHA recently announced a new partnership with Util Auditors that provides a no-risk assessment for cost containment for all 250 OHA member hospitals and 15 health systems.

Apply for 2027 AHA Foster G. McGaw Prize for Community Service Excellence by May 5

AHA is now accepting applications for the 2027 Foster G. McGaw Prize, which honors hospitals and health systems that demonstrate excellence in community service. Applications are open through May 5. The award recognizes organizations that align programs with community health needs and forge partnerships to improve access to care and address social determinants of health. Past winners have co-created mental health crisis clinics, expanded housing for people transitioning out of homelessness and strengthened vital community benefit organizations. One winner and up to three finalists will be recognized at the 2026 AHA Leadership Summit in Denver. Learn more and submit applications here.

Save the Date: Locations Set for Fall OHA Professional Society Conferences

OHA has announced dates and locations for several fall conferences for our professional societies, bringing together health care leaders from across Ohio. The Ohio Society of Health Care Risk Managers and Society for Ohio Health Care Attorneys Fall Conference will take place Sept. 25 at the Quest Conference Center. The Ohio Society for Health Care Facilities Management Fall Conference will take place Oct. 15 at the Quest Conference Center. The Ohio Organization for Nursing Leadership Fall Conference will be held Nov. 4-6 at the Renaissance Hotel Westerville. AHA, OHA Resources Available for Workplace Violence Awareness Month

April is Workplace Violence Awareness Month, and AHA and OHA are spotlighting a range of resources to help hospitals strengthen workforce safety and prevention efforts. Through its Hospitals Against Violence initiative, AHA offers guidance including toolkits, case studies and issue briefs focused on building safer work environments and mitigating risks. Resources also address preparedness for targeted violence and active shooter incidents, as well as strategies to support staff affected by trauma. OHA offers a range of workplace violence prevention resources to support member hospitals, including model codes of conduct, policy templates and guidance aligned with The Joint Commission standards. Free Remote Area Medical Clinic to Offer Dental, Vision Services in Ashtabula

Free dental, vision and medical services will be available April 11-12 in Ashtabula through clinics hosted by the Remote Area Medical. The event will take place at Lakeside Junior High School, with doors opening at 6 a.m. each day and patients seen on a first-come, first-served basis. No insurance or identification is required, and services will include eye exams and glasses, dental care and basic medical evaluations. Organizers say the clinics are designed to reduce barriers to care, including cost and transportation, for underserved communities. Learn more here.
