Ohio SUD Center of Excellence Launches New CME Training Series

Ohio’s Substance Use Disorder Center of Excellence, or SUD COE, is expanding its free, evidence-informed training offerings for health care professionals in collaboration with the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health. The SUD COE serves as the state’s hub for substance use disorder treatment providers and offers integrated education and resources aimed at improving care quality statewide.

The center will launch a new series of one-hour, CME-eligible virtual trainings designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, advanced practice nurses and physician assistants. The first session, scheduled for Jan. 29, 2026, will focus on treating pregnant and postpartum women with opioid use disorder and will be led by Mark Hurst, MD, a medical consultant to the SUD COE.

The training will address evaluation and treatment approaches while working to reduce stigma and support appropriate use of medications for opioid use disorder. Learn more and register here.

ODM Releases New Work, Community Engagement Resources

The Ohio Department of Medicaid launched a new webpage to help inform Medicaid members and providers of the upcoming work and community engagement requirements effective in 2026 (exact date TBA). The webpage provides information about the requirements as well as resources, such as the department’s Nov. webinar slide deck. ODM notes that the information published is subject to change prior to program implementation based on future CMS guidance. Read more

AHA Guide Supports Hospital Preparedness for Mass Violence

The American Hospital Association has released a new resource to help hospitals and health systems prepare for and respond to mass violence incidents, developed in partnership with the Medical University of South Carolina’s National Mass Violence Center. The Health Care Leaders’ Guide to Mass Violence Preparedness, Response, Recovery and Mitigation provides evidence-based strategies that hospitals can integrate into existing emergency and disaster management plans. The guide addresses immediate response needs as well as longer-term physical, behavioral and mental health impacts on patients, staff and communities. OHA Opioid Overdose Dashboard Updated with Q3 2025 Data

OHA’s Opioid Overdose Dashboard has been updated with data through the third quarter of 2025. The data is derived from the more than 39 million annual coded hospital encounters in Ohio. The release of per-capita rates by county as well as by market area are intended to assist health policymakers, funders and local collaboratives in their work. Q3 2025 saw 1,372 overdose encounters, a slight decrease from 1,397 in Q2 2025. The data does not reflect overdoses that did not present for care at a hospital or overdoses that occurred among Ohio residents who were cared for at hospitals outside the state.…
