Ohio Ends Measles Outbreak, Sees Rise in Whooping Cough

Ohio health officials have declared the state’s measles outbreak over, with no new cases since April. However, whooping cough is surging, with over 500 cases reported in 2025 and one death. Ohio Department of Health director Bruce Vanderhoff, MD, recently urged residents to stay up to date on vaccinations. He also warned of increasing risks from tick- and mosquito-borne illnesses like Lyme disease and West Nile virus as summer begins.
