Lyme Disease Cases Continue to Rise in Ohio, Clinicians Urged to Stay Vigilant
July 11, 2025
Lyme disease, transmitted by the blacklegged tick, has significantly increased in Ohio since the species became established in the state in 2010. Health officials urge clinicians to consider Lyme and other tickborne illnesses when diagnosing patients with fever, fatigue, or rash and to be familiar with appropriate lab testing protocols.
The Ohio Department of Health emphasizes the importance of timely treatment for suspected cases of Lyme. Prompt reporting of suspected cases to local health departments is also critical. Additional resources and testing guidance are available through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention here.
