Welcome, New Medical Residents to Ohio’s Hospital Community

Lyme disease, transmitted by the blacklegged tick, has significantly increased in Ohio since the species became established in the state in 2010. Health officials urge clinicians to consider Lyme and other tickborne illnesses when diagnosing patients with fever, fatigue, or rash and to be familiar with appropriate lab testing protocols. The Ohio Department of Health emphasizes the importance of timely treatment for suspected cases of Lyme. Prompt reporting of suspected cases to local health departments is also critical. OhioHealth is among a group of leading U.S. health systems committing over $100 million in student loan repayment to support clinical workforce development through a partnership with Clasp, a recruitment platform focused on retention. The model allows employers to offer loan repayment of up to $75,000 over three years, starting while students are still in school and tied to long-term employment milestones. Clasp has also secured $100 million in education loan funding to help students pursue advanced clinical careers without financial barriers. Each year more than 200 individuals present over 85 concurrent educational sessions, 20 research papers, and up to 100 research and educational posters at NRHA's Annual Rural Health Conference and Rural Hospital Innovation Summit, the nation's largest, most inclusive rural health event. Any person with an interest in rural health is invited to submit a concurrent session by Aug. 14 and research papers or posters by Jan. 15 for presentation during the 2026 conference May 19-22 in San Diego.
