OHA Opioid Overdose Dashboard Updated with Q2 2025 Data

OHA’s Opioid Overdose Dashboard has been updated with data through the second quarter of 2025. The data is derived from the more than 39 million annual coded hospital encounters in Ohio. The release of per-capita rates by county as well as by market area are intended to assist health policymakers, funders and local collaboratives in their work.

While Q1 2025 had the fewest overdose encounters (1,133) since OHA began tracking the data in 2016, Q2 saw an increase of 262 more overdose encounters. The data does not reflect overdoses that did not present for care at a hospital or overdoses that occurred among Ohio residents who were cared for at hospitals outside the state.

Medicare Telehealth, Hospital-at-Home Payments on Hold

CMS clarified yesterday that Medicare will hold claims for telehealth and hospital-at-home services while Congress is at an impasse over funding the government and renewing key healthcare programs, the agency said in a notice Wednesday. The legal authorities for fee-for-service Medicare to cover telehealth and hospital-at-home care expired Oct. 1. CMS has instructed Medicare billing contractors to hold claims for services performed on or after that date, the agency said in the notice.

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Set for Oct. 25

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is set to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration hosts Drug Take Back Day to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the public about the potential for abuse of medications. The state of Ohio collected more than 30,000 pounds of prescription drugs during the previous Take Back Day in April of this year. Click here to find disposal sites near you.

Get Prepared Now for 2026 Program Implementation with Provider Resources

The Ohio Department of Medicaid is implementing its Next Generation MyCare program Jan. 1, 2026, in the 29 counties where MyCare Ohio is available today.
