Health Care Affordability Hits 5-Year Low, New Survey Finds
June 26, 2026
A new national survey shows fewer than half of U.S. adults can consistently afford health care, underscoring growing financial pressures on patients and providers alike. The latest West Health-Gallup Healthcare Affordability Index found just 49% of Americans are considered “cost secure,” marking the lowest level in five years.
Researchers estimate 2.8 million more adults reported being unable to afford care in 2025 compared with the previous year. The findings highlight ongoing concerns over access to care, delayed treatment and the financial strain facing households nationwide.
