The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is the first center in the Midwest to enroll and treat a patient in a clinical trial evaluating a novel device for ventricular tachycardia, a potentially life-threatening heart rhythm disorder. The investigational technology combines heart mapping, treatment and assessment functions in a single catheter and may help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of cardiac ablation procedures. Akron Children’s is expanding pediatric vision research following a $2 million endowment from the Knights Templar Eye Foundation, which the hospital will match. Led by Dr. Faruk H. Örge, director of the Akron Children’s Vision Center, the initiative will support research examining eye movements, pupil responses and brain activity to better understand vision and neurological conditions affecting children. The Christ Hospital Health Network recently performed the region’s first Single Port robotic gallbladder removal surgery. The procedure was led by Dr. Jon Schilling, who is the first general surgeon in the region to use the technology for cholecystectomy.
