Series Overview

OHA is committed to addressing hospital workforce issues through advocacy, education and collaboration. This 6-part virtual “Workforce Lunch & Learn” series offers insights into the current health care workforce landscape and will be used as a time to network, share best practices and work together to identify innovative solutions.

Here is a quick overview of the content that will be shared throughout the series:

  • Strategies for success in onboarding health care quality professionals.
  • Intentional workforce planning, strategic sourcing methods and actionable strategies to build sustainable health care talent pipelines.
  • Strategies to cultivate the next generation of diverse health care leaders and ensure a resilient and equitable health care workforce, through mentorship, accessible educational pathways, inclusive workplace cultures and organizational innovation.
  • Workforce planning metrics and the impact of operational vacancies on staffing efficiency, premium pay and patient care.
  • Workforce challenges and the innovative strategies, cultural transformation and leadership approaches needed to overcome them and drive workforce innovation in health care.
  • Health care staffing, hiring practices and generational dynamics in the workforce.

Learning Objectives

This presentation will focus on how leaders in safety, quality and accreditation onboard new caregivers, set expectations, remove common barriers that hinder learning in a new field. It will include how we measure success in onboarding and set up all team members for success to grow and develop.

  • Participants will be able to describe characteristics to look for in health care quality candidates
  • Participants will learn keys for a successful onboarding, especially for caregivers new to safety, quality and accreditation
  • Selection characteristics key for safety, quality and accreditation professionals
  • Use of checklists during onboarding
  • Measurement of success when onboarding new safety, quality and accreditation professionals

Who Should Attend

Human resources, chief nursing officer and nursing staff, chief medical officer/VPMA, patient care staff, Emergency Department staff and leadership, patient advocates/liaisons, risk managers and quality staff.
