Sepsis Survivor’s Story

September 19, 2025

At age 21, Abby Clinkenbeard was a college student preparing for finals when what seemed like the flu quickly turned life-threatening. She collapsed at home and was rushed to UC Health West Chester Hospital, where doctors discovered she was in septic shock. Abby spent days in the ICU fighting for her life, but with the care of the UC Health team, she survived and recovered. In honor of Sepsis Awareness month, Abby and her mother, Pamela, shared their story of resilience with OHA, highlighting the critical importance of early recognition and treatment of sepsis.

OHA thanks Abby and Pamela for courageously telling their story and UC Health for helping to save her life. Watch the full video above and find information about OHA’s statewide Sepsis Initiative here.
