Sepsis Survivor’s Story

At age 21, Abby Clinkenbeard was a college student preparing for finals when what seemed like the flu quickly turned life-threatening. She collapsed at home and was rushed to UC Health West Chester Hospital, where doctors discovered she was in septic shock. Abby spent days in the ICU fighting for her life, but with the care of the UC Health team, she survived and recovered. In honor of Sepsis Awareness month, Abby and her mother, Pamela, shared their story of resilience with OHA, highlighting the critical importance of early recognition and treatment of sepsis.

Oct. 1 Deadline Approaching for First Steps Program Recognition

The deadline for hospitals to submit applications for the Ohio First Steps for Healthy Babies program, an OHA initiative, in collaboration with the Ohio Department of Health, Ohio Breastfeeding Alliance and the Ohio Lactation Consultant Association, is Oct. 1. Submit Nominations for 2026 OHA Health Care Worker of the Year Award

Celebrate exceptional health care professionals by submitting a nomination for the 2026 OHA Health Care Worker of the Year Award. Presented at the 111th OHA Annual Meeting & Education Summit, the award honors front-line workers from OHA member hospitals who embody their organization’s mission, go above and beyond in their roles and give back to their communities. Each member hospital may nominate one employee – whether a caregiver or support staff – who demonstrates these qualities. Nominations are due by Nov. 30, 2025. FTC Issues Warning Letters to Health Care Employers Regarding Non-Compete Agreements

The Federal Trade Commission, or FTC, has sent letters to several large health care employers and staffing firms warning them to ensure their noncompete agreements comply with the law.  Despite voting recently to withdraw from its defense of former President Biden’s administration’s rule banning noncompetes, this action by the FTC signals that it still intends to actively enforce the antitrust laws against noncompete agreements.  Even employers who do not receive letters from the FTC should examine any noncompete agreements they have and ensure they are appropriately tailored to the circumstances.
