OHA Announces 2025 Sustainability, Energy Cup Award Winners

OHA’s Energy & Sustainability Program this year brought back its Sustainability and Energy Cup awards, and winners of the 2025 honors were announced Friday. This year’s winners include:

The John Chapman Award for Environmental Leadership: The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for outstanding campus-wide efforts in energy, waste and procurement. Named in honor of Johnny Appleseed, the award recognizes a hospital or health system for excellence in initiating or supporting pollution prevention programs.

Melvin Creeley Awards: Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Henry County Hospital, Wright-Patterson Medical Center, Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital, OhioHealth System and Akron Children’s Hospital for innovative and impactful sustainability improvements. The award recognizes hospitals and health systems that promote sound environmental practices through the implementation of energy efficiency programs, waste reduction strategies, recycling initiatives and other activities to preserve the health of the planet for future generations.

Energy Cup Awards: 32 hospital sites reduced energy use by at least 3% from 2023 to 2024. The following sites saw the largest percentage reduction in the categories of large hospital, small hospital and non-hospital:

  • MetroHealth Medical Center – Main Campus – 14.74% reduction (large hospital winner)
  • Pomerene Hospital – 8.06% reduction (small hospital winner)
  • Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, 700 Ackerman Road – 20.89% reduction (non-hospital winner)

ODM Expands Next Generation MyCare Rollout, Urges Provider Readiness by April 1

The Ohio Department of Medicaid, or ODM, is expanding its Next Generation MyCare program to 10 additional counties beginning April 1. The next phase includes Sandusky, Erie, Henry, Williams, Defiance, Paulding, Fayette, Fairfield, Licking and Ashtabula counties. OHA encourages hospitals and providers to review and share available resources to ensure they are prepared for the transition, including enrollment, contracting and claims submission processes. ODM has developed a communications toolkit with ready-to-use newsletter content, social media posts and provider resources to support outreach and education efforts. Stay Ahead of Spring Allergy Season with Tips From Cleveland Clinic

Allergy season is here, and experts from OHA member Cleveland Clinic say now is the time to take preventive steps. “Focus on avoidance techniques, medications and treatments like allergy shots,” said Cleveland Clinic allergist Sandra Hong, MD, in a release. Starting nasal steroid sprays before symptoms appear can help, while oral antihistamines can relieve sneezing and itching during the season. Simple measures such as keeping windows closed, showering after being outdoors and limiting pets in the bedroom can also reduce exposure to allergens. For persistent symptoms, Hong recommends consulting an allergist to identify triggers and explore personalized treatment options, including allergy shots or tablets. Find more…

Congrats! Record Number of Physicians Secure Residencies on 2026 Match Day

OHA congratulates the thousands of future physicians who secured residency placements during Match Day on March 20, marking the largest Main Residency Match in the program’s 74-year history, per the American Medical Association. A record 44,344 positions were offered in 2026, with nearly 80% of applicants matching into first-year residency roles and more than 93% of positions filled.
