Nominations Open for 2026 OHA Health Care Worker of the Year Award

Recognize health care workers who go above and beyond by nominating them for the 2026 OHA Health Care Worker of the Year.

This annual award, to be presented at the 111th OHA Annual Meeting & Education Summit, recognizes outstanding front-line health care workers from OHA member hospitals who consistently go above and beyond, embody the mission and values of their organization and give back to the community.

To honor the work of its staff members, each OHA member hospital may nominate one individual to be considered for the award. Nominations must be submitted by Nov. 30, 2025.

Nominees must be current employees of an OHA member hospital. The nominee can be a direct caregiver, but that is not a requirement. Support personnel are also eligible if they exemplify the qualities represented by this award.

Sept. 13 Marks World Sepsis Day; Access Resources from Global Sepsis Alliance

Saturday, Sept. 13, is World Sepsis Day, a global call to action to raise awareness of a condition that causes 1 in 5 deaths worldwide. Organized by the Global Sepsis Alliance, this year’s campaign highlights the theme “5 Facts × 5 Actions,” underscoring essential knowledge about sepsis and steps that can save lives. The initiative urges governments, health systems, providers and communities to prioritize prevention, early detection and treatment. New Children’s Eyesight Program Seeks Providers

Gov. Mike DeWine and Bruce Vanderhoff, MD, director of the Ohio Department of Health, announced a request for proposal for providers to join the new children’s eyesight program. The program was recommended by the Children’s Vision Strike Force, DeWine’s program to increase care for students with vision problems, after finding only 26% of students who need extra vision care can receive it. OhioSEE will serve kindergarten through 3rd-grade students in high priority areas, including 15 counties with over 80% of children who fail vision tests do not receive the care they need. Cedarville University Uses Donation from Kettering Health to Grow Nursing Program

Kettering Health gifted Cedarville University’s nursing school 28 new hospital beds and four stretchers to elevate its training program. This replacement will modernize student learning, as some previous equipment dates to 2012. This change also set off a chain reaction of generosity. The University’s previously used beds will be sent to Advocates for World Health, a Florida-based nonprofit program that redistributes medical equipment to underserved areas. With the help of Total Quality Logistics, the beds were easily transported to the nonprofit location. All beds were moved to their new location as of Aug. 14 to ensure they will be ready…

ODH Updates Rules on Communicable Diseases

The Ohio Department of Health updates its rules concerning mandatory reporting of certain communicable diseases in Ohio, which will be effective Oct. 1. Reportable communicable diseases fall into three categories: Class A – Diseases of major public health concern because of the severity of disease or potential for epidemic spread and must be reported immediately via telephone upon recognition that a case, a suspected case, or a positive laboratory result exists.
