New Children’s Eyesight Program Seeks Providers

September 12, 2025

Gov. Mike DeWine and Bruce Vanderhoff, MD, director of the Ohio Department of Health, announced a request for proposal for providers to join the new children’s eyesight program.

The program was recommended by the Children’s Vision Strike Force, DeWine’s program to increase care for students with vision problems, after finding only 26% of students who need extra vision care can receive it.

OhioSEE will serve kindergarten through 3rd-grade students in high priority areas, including 15 counties with over 80% of children who fail vision tests do not receive the care they need. Kids will receive this care through mobile vision vans and temporary vision clinics in school, which will remove transportation, cost and availability as barriers for vision care.

This program estimates 14,000 children per year will be able to receive vision care beginning next year.
