111th OHA Annual Meeting to Spotlight Nursing Practice, Leadership May 19-21

Nursing leaders will take center stage at OHA’s 111th Annual Meeting & Education Summit, May 19-21 at the Hyatt Regency Columbus, with a robust Nursing Practice & Leadership track focused on advancing workforce engagement, leadership development and care excellence.

Sessions on May 19 will explore topics ranging from sustainable nursing education and shared governance to strengthening communication and preparing the next generation of nurse leaders.

The track continues May 20 with timely updates from the Ohio Board of Nursing, alongside sessions on strategic planning and peer leadership support. Attendees will gain practical tools and real-world insights to enhance team performance, improve outcomes and navigate the evolving demands of today’s health care environment.

ODM Expands Next Generation MyCare Program, Hosts Provider Webinars

The Ohio Department of Medicaid will expand its Next Generation MyCare program on April 1 to include Sandusky, Erie, Henry, Williams, Defiance, Paulding, Fayette, Fairfield, Licking and Ashtabula counties. To help providers prepare, ODM is hosting monthly webinars through August, alternating sessions for Ohio Department of Aging providers and other provider types. The webinars will cover program details, impacts on providers and necessary preparation steps, with recordings available online. CDC Advises Clinicians on Penicillin Shortage, Alternative Treatment Supply

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is allowing temporary importation of Lentocilin to help address limited availability of Bicillin L-A, a key injectable penicillin used to treat syphilis. Federal health officials are urging clinicians to preserve benzathine penicillin G for pregnant patients, as it is the only recommended treatment for pregnant women and babies with congenital syphilis. The guidance comes as syphilis diagnoses continue to rise nationwide and supplies of the medication remain constrained. ODH Seeks Hospital Proposals for Medical Residency Support Program by March 30

The Ohio Department of Health is seeking proposals from eligible hospitals for the SFY26–27 Ohio Medical Residency Support Program, aimed at expanding graduate medical education in family medicine and psychiatry. Hospitals interested in applying must submit proposals by 3 p.m. March 30, with questions due by March 26. The initiative is designed to strengthen Ohio’s physician workforce and improve access to care, particularly in rural and underserved communities. AHA Provides Resources for National Hospital Week 2026

The American Hospital Association is celebrating National Hospital Week, May 10-16, 2026, under the theme “Healing Happens Here.” The initiative recognizes the dedication of hospital and health system staff and encourages the public to show support for health care workers.
