Lima Memorial to Host Third Annual 5K Run & Walk

Memorial Health recently awarded scholarships to six local high school seniors planning to pursue careers in health care and science-related fields. The students, representing schools across Union County, each received a $1,000 Memorial Hospital Medical Staff Scholarship during recent school award ceremonies. Several recipients also were recognized for volunteering and interning within Memorial’s inpatient, emergency, nutrition care and physical therapy departments. Akron Children’s is recognizing the retirement of Dr. Jeff Hord, longtime medical director of the Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders, following a nearly three-decade career advancing pediatric cancer and blood disorder care in Northeast Ohio. During his tenure, the hospital significantly expanded access to specialized childhood cancer services, grew its hematology-oncology team and launched programs including stem cell transplantation, survivorship care and adolescent cancer services. OhioHealth Marion General Hospital is hosting its annual Cancer Survivor Celebration on June 24. The event is set for 4-7 p.m. at the Tri-Rivers Career Center, 2222 Marion Mount Gilead Road in Marion. The celebration will feature live entertainment, a catered dinner by River Valley Lunch Bunch, speakers, free photo portraits and door prizes. Read more.

In partnership with Madison-Champaign County Educational Service Center, Mercy Health - Urbana recently celebrated the first graduates of its LIFE Transitions program. The LIFE Transitions program works with students with disabilities, ages 16 to 21, and assists in building independence, confidence and job preparation through hands-on learning in a hospital setting.
